How to Twirl Pasta

If you are a devout pasta twirler I’d like to say Congrats! I became a Pasta Twirler about 2 years ago and I have never looked back.   If you don’t know how to properly twirl pasta, don’t fret, it is easy to learn and you will thank me later for teaching you.   Here is how to twirl pasta:

  1. Take a spoon (a soup spoon should work fine) in your left hand and hold your fork in your right hand.
  2. Hold both of them so the insides of each utensil are facing towards each other.  In other words, do not hold them down flat but on their sides.
  3. Using your fork, pull some pasta aside by grabbing about 5-6 strands on average.
  4. Then slide the fork towards the spoon so it is dragging along the pasta strands.
  5. Once the tip of the fork touches the inside of the spoon, start twirling the fork so the pasta strings wrap around the fork.   Make sure the fork is always touching the spoon otherwise the strands will come apart. Once the strands are nicely wrapped around the fork it is time to enjoy!

Of course there are some pointers I’d like to give such as using proper Italian dinnerware.

1. Use a pasta bowl rather than a plate.
2. Use a soup spoon size spoon.   Too small can make it more difficult, but you may be fine with a regular spoon.  Give either a try and use what works best.
3.  Do not break the long pasta in half before boiling.   Keep the noodles long, it makes for easier twirling.

That’s it!   Enjoy and let me know how it “twirls out” for you.
