When I first started looking into doing a review of the Cuisinart food processor (11 prep plus), I realized I had been using the terms “mixer” and “food processor” interchangeably.
But the two are actually different.
A mixer will well… mix ingredients together. This creates more of a blending result such as when making cookie dough.
A food processor can blend things together, but it can do a lot more. However, in regards to blending and using cookie dough as an example, the Cuisinart 11 prep plus has an actual Dough setting.
It can blend dough.
Simply use the dough blade and press the dough button. Couldn’t be easier.
It is designed to find the perfect consistency for dough so the blending process is nice and even and smooth.
So what else can it do? It can chop for one thing. Talk about saving time! Throw in an onion, a tomato, and some cilantro and you got yourself a nice Mexican salsa!
It can also slice.
It may not be as exact as a food slicer, but it can still get the job done. Throw in some lettuce and you got yourself some nice shredded lettuce to go next to your Mexican burrito and salsa.
I suppose I should be using Mexican as an example considering this is an Italian recipe website, but hey…
So what can you do with a mixer?
You can mix. Can you chop? No. Can you slice? No. Can you shred? No. Can you mix? Yes.
What can you do with a food processor? All of the above.
Food processors come in a variety of sizes.
You have the mini food processor which is so cute! But not all that practical except for making pesto and stuff like that.
You have your mid size which goes up to 9 Cups.
This is a good size and serves a number of purposes.
Then you have your larger sizes which are 11 Cups. It is these larger sizes that have the Dough setting. But you have to be careful because not all large size food processors carry this.
The 11 Prep Plus is special.
It’s main selling point is the fact it has this dough blending technology.
So if your goal is to make more cookies, make more bread, make more pizza dough – then you should consider the Cuisinart 11 Prep Plus – even KitchenAid is also a good choice. Check it out at Amazon where they have customer reviews and more specs. You can also check my own Cuisinart review where I discuss many of its features.
Happy chopping, slicing, shredding, and dough mixing!
