What would we do without the Cuisinart Prep 11 Plus? Sure it
can chop, dice and all the other - but it also mixes and kneads
dough which makes this food processor stand out above the rest.
I can remember the first time I made pizza dough. We lived
in an apartment at the time and space was an issue. I would
have so many different bowls out holding my different ingredients.
I would make a batch, then let that rise while having to spend
more time kneading more dough and the process would repeat itself.
The Cuisinart Prep-11 Plus will surely make life easier in
the kitchen for any home cook or baker.
What Does it Do?
It does quite a number of things which is why
it excels at the top of my list. The Cuisinart
DLC-2011CHB Prep 11 Plus
can chop your vegetables, slice your onions, dice your peppers
and even puree your tomatoes too. Just imagine how easy it would
be to make your own pesto or salsa in less than 3 minutes. Just
put everything in and blend them all together.
In addition to working with every vegetable from
your garden, the Cuisinart Prep-11 also works wonders for making
dough. It is perfect for those who like to do baking or make their
own pizza dough. I explain the special "dough mixer"
setting as one of the best features below.
Examples for dough can range from chocolate chip
cookie dough, or maybe bread dough for Italian garlic bread. And
of course, what every Italian loves to do - make their own pasta
and pizza dough.
What Does it Look Like?
This model is offered in stainless steel, however
you can also get it in white
. The buttons are touch pads which have black lettering. Touch
pad controls make it easy to press with your fingertips and are
very easy to clean, rather than buttons or switches where food
and liquids can fall into the crevasses. The feed tube is transparent
and wide allowing for easy feeding of fruits and vegetables.
The feet are made of rubber which allows for
secure suction so you do not have to concern yourself with it
tipping over or moving around while it is blending.
How Big is it?
This model is 7 deep by 9.5 length x 14.8 inches
tall and weighs approximately 18 lbs. It is smaller than most
other brands and I think that is a great benefit because it will
easily fit on any counter.
What is in the Box?
The Cuisinart Prep 11 Plus comes with the following:
- Large 11 cup work bowl
- 4 1/4 x 2 3/4 feed tube for continuous processing
- Pushers
- Stainless steel slicing disc (4mm)
- Stainless steel shredding disc
- Chopping blade
- Dough blade
- Spatula
- Instructional manual with recipes

Cuisinart backs up this product with a generous 3 year warranty
on parts, and a 10 year warranty for the motor. That is the most
generous within the industry.
Additional accessories which are recommended
for purchase are the Blade
and Disc Holder
and the DLC-DH
Disc Holder .
I use these at home and it was worth the extra purchase because
they stay organized and out of the way.
Is it Dishwasher Safe?
Yes, the bowls, blades and discs are all dishwasher
safe. Simply disassemble, place in the dishwasher and you will
be on your way.
If you are concerned about dishwashers which
use high temp scrub type settings, you may be better off washing
some of the accessories by hand to prevent dulling.
The Dough Button Feature
Cuisinart has a patent pending feature which
causes the mixer to adjust automatically to the texture of the
dough, creating a perfect consistency when finished. Although
smaller Cusinart sizes such as the 9 Cup food processor, comes
with a dough blade, they do not have the Dough mixing button which
is specific to the Prep
11 Plus .
Anyone who makes their own dough, will appreciate
not only the time which will be saved having to knead their own
dough, but also the superb reliability this machine delivers each
and every time.
This is a big plus for Cuisinart in my book and
why I rate it above all the others.
The Pulse Feature
This Cuisinart also comes equiped with a pulse
control function which allows for a quick stop and start - perfect
for when precision timing is needed.
What Does it Not Do?
It will not replace your tall blender. This is
a misconception many people have. You will probably still want
to use your blender for recipes which require lots of liquids,
such as soups. Naturally some users have gotten upset stating
the food processor spewed their soup out the top when they tried
to make soup. Well, naturally that will happen because this is
not tall like a blender which is designed to prevent such leakages.
This is not a blender - it is a food processor.
It is not a bread machine either. It will give
you the kneaded bread dough, but you will need to remove it and
let it rise outside of the machine.
Can I use old Cuisinart
parts?
One nice benefit is that many of the 7 cup Cuisinart
parts can be used on this 11 cup one as well. So if you are upgrading
and have extra parts, they will probably work on the 11 cup Cuisinart.
What is the Best Feature?
I find it hard to say because it does so well
for all its features. For example, for those who love to make
pizzas or bread, the dough setting might be the best feature.
As I mentioned above, they have a special setting just for mixing
dough and for those who like to make a lot of bread, cookies,
pasta or pizza I think this is a huge plus.
However, there is one feature I know everyone
and anyone would love and that is the excellent job Cuisinart
did to make this machine run as quietly as possible. It is not
silent as a whisper of course, but it is not as loud as a blender
for sure!
