Italian Green Beans

Italian Green Beans

Sounds boring doesn't it? Not if you use real Italian green beans. I never knew they existed until a few years ago! I use this dish as a side for pasta or sometimes I make a huge batch and just eat it as it is. Try it and see if it is still boring for you! Send some feedback to my blog!
Servings: 4

  Ingredients   Italian Name
Italian green beans - frozen or fresh (if fresh, trim ends and strings, and cut in thirds.)   Fagioli Verdi italiani
3 cloves garlic crushed (not minced)   aglio
drizzle of extra virgin olive oil   olio vergine
  little bit of water   acqua
  fresh basil (optional)   basilico fresco

  Instructions
1. Heat extra virgin olive oil over medium heat in medium saucepan
2. Add frozen or fresh green beans
3. Add in a small amount of water for steaming
4. Drop in crushed garlic and give a good stir.
5. Lower stove to low heat, cover and cook about 20 minutes or until tender.
6. Serve warm. Refrigerate leftovers.

Tip #1: When using fresh beans I use a frying pan because I don't cut them as short as the frozen beans.

Tip #2: Add some fresh basil for some extra flavor. It tastes great!

Tip # 3: The reason for crushing the garlic is that it lends a good overall flavor without overpowering the beans. If you were to mince the garlic, the aroma would be stronger. But prepare it however you want it, that is the joy of cooking!
