pomegranates

Pomegranates are wonderful fruit.  But how does one go about digging out the nutrient packed seeds that are hidden inside….and is it even worth it?

I always viewed pomegranates at the store as too expensive.  One lousy fruit for $2.50 (typically 2 for $5).  So I walk on by wishing I wasn’t so frugal, and in 10 seconds I’ve already forgotten about them… sorta…

Finally, I decided to give it a try, and I recorded a video below that you can watch and determine if it’s really worth all the effort to prepare.

There’s the Wrong Way to Cutting Fresh Pomegranates

When we got home we put one on a cutting board, and cut into it right down the middle.  Red juice everywhere.  Then we used a spoon to dig out all the seeds which are loaded with the juice, so more red juice landing everywhere.

For those of you who know how terribly wrong that is you can stop laughing now…

And There’s the Right Way to Cutting Fresh Pomegranates

A few nights later I was at a get together and the topic came up if it was worth the time and energy to dig into seeds.

I thought maybe others are wondering the same thing.  Therefore, I decided to do a little research on YouTube and try it again.  But this time to record myself for my viewers to know if it really is all that easy as these other edited videos make it appear.

A Video Cutting one the Right Way for the First Time

So here you go… a video of yours truly figuring out how to really do it.  In the end, it worked out pretty well.   One pomegranate produced 2 cups of sweet seeds that we ate up in about 5 minutes.  It was better than candy.

You’ll see in the video how long it actually takes.  By the way, the seeds/juice will stain, so if you serve them be careful and make sure your kids eat them at a table.

Too Much Work?  Order Pomegranate Juice Online

If you decide it’s not worth it, you can get the best bang for your buck by ordering Fruit Fast’s Pomegranate Juice Concentrate which is available at Amazon.  This is the brand I personally use, and they also offer other fruits such as cranberry or blueberry.  I love mixing the blueberry and pomegranate.

The concentrate comes in 32 oz plastic bottles, and since you only use one Tablespoon or 1/2 oz in a glass of water, you get 64 servings.

One serving gives you approximately what you’d get nutrition wise from a whole pomegranate.

Remember, this is not pomegranate juice… it’s pomegranate juice “concentrate” which means it’s not watered down.  This is in it’s purest form (after eating the seeds that is).  It’s awesome.
