Chocolate Italian Desserts
Italians are not necessarily known for always using chocolate with their desserts – such as in Belgium where they are known for their love of chocolate-making.
However, by the 1700s, it was the city of Turin in Italy that had started to gain a reputation of producing innovative chocolate.
However, Italy is widely known for their gianduja which is a blend of chocolate and hazelnut. You probably heard of nutella, which is hugely popular in Italy. You can even use nutella as a spread for fruit, or as a crepe filling like the recipe I feature below.
For the most part, the Italians don’t like super sweet chocolate, and will sometimes use cacao instead of cocoa. Cacao is more bitter and unsweetened. I caution using cacao unless the recipe specifically calls for it.
