This recipe for an Italian fruit salad is one of my favorite salads to make. I recently made it for a family get together and it was a huge hit. I thought if it’s that big a hit I better share it with you too!

Recipe Summary

This recipe will create about 4-6 servings depending on portion size. It’s very flexible and I used what I could find at the store to pull this together. So if you need to deviate go ahead but just avoid overly tropical ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Sliced strawberries
  • Sliced kiwi – yes kiwi is grown in Italy!
  • Red seedless grapes
  • Blackberries, halved
  • Orange – make sure to cut off any pith.
  • Plums, sliced
  • Freshly squeezed lemon juice

If you’re wondering how this is different than a regular fruit salad, it’s about what’s not in it. No tropical ingredients and I use lemon.

Step by Step Instructions

For exact measurements check out the recipe card below. These steps will explain what’s involved in making this delicious Italian recipe.

Step 1. Wash and pat dry all the fruit.

Step 2. Cut the fruit into equal-sized slices or chunks for an even mix and pleasant presentation.

Step 3. Peel the orange, removing all the white pith. Slice along the membranes so only the orange segments go into the salad. Any juice that escapes? Pour it in too.

Step 4. In a large bowl, combine all the fruit and add the fresh lemon juice.

PRO TIP: Slicing the grapes allows the juices from the grapes to incorporate with the other juices, so take the time to slice them!

Step 5. Stir gently to combine and let the juices mix naturally.

Step 6. Serve at room temperature, or chill slightly before serving.

PRO TIP: Using freshly squeezed ripe lemons is crucial in my opinion. It makes the salad a little brighter and compliments the orange and other ingredients greatly.

Recipe Tips & Modifications

Here are some helpful tips with this salad that I use when planning on making this lovely fruit salad.

  • Serve at room temperature for best flavor.
  • Purchase the ingredients a few days before any party to ensure the fruit is ripe.
  • Always use freshly squeezed lemon juice, not lemon concentrate. Even packaged “freshly squeezed” juices don’t taste the same.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The fruit may soften slightly but will still be delicious. Remove 20 minutes before serving so fruit can get to room temperature.
